Some definitions of the French word Terroir that explain the variables of a certain vineyard (including soil, temperature, rainfall, sunlight & topography) also include the human variable. Viticultural and Winemaking decisions greatly affect the wine we make. While it is important to treat the environment with respect, treating each other with respect also produces better wine. We are a small team with a big vision.

Bruce Thomas
Company Director

Bruce is a recent convert from chartered accounting to the wine business. While wondering why this took him so long he also ponders our big picture questions such as direction and style. He prefers to do this pondering from the close proximity of world-class trout fishing rivers and tramping huts and is currently calculating whether a helicopter used for frost protection would also make it to the local ski field in the same trip!

Nick Gill
Viticulturist

Nick is a recent import from the South Australian heartland of the Barossa Valley. He has crossed the ditch (struggling against the current going the other way) to fish trout and stalk deer and in his spare time develop and manage 37 hectares of our vineyard! This man of the land managed the majority of Penfolds Grange vineyards in Australia including Magill Estate, Block 42, Koonunga Hill and Kalimna. Say no more.
