Greystone Pinot Gris 2011

An inviting and glowing light golden colour lure us into a powerful yet perfectly restrained nose of pear, nutmeg, cloves, nougat and white summer flowers.  A fresh and finely poised palate overflowing with lush fruits is supported by sleek natural acidity.  Textural complexity from lees stirring gives the perfect support to the wonderful fruit characters of another classic Greystone Pinot Gris.

Viticulturist's Notes

We carefully manage our three estate blocks of Pinot Gris to ensure we can pick the perfectly balanced fruit we need for this wine.  the 2011 season has given us flavour intensity at lower sugar levels.  This slightly cloudier than 'normal' season has given us fruit with subtle power.
 
Our Pinot Gris comes from gentle slopes, NW facing on wind-blown loess (silt) over clay.  Limestone deposits through vineyard.  Density 2500 vines/Ha on two-cane VSP trellising.

Winemaker's Notes

Fruit was given a short period of skin contact before pressing to tank for settling then cool fermentation.  A small percentage was 'run' to old French oak barrels for natural fermentation.  The remaining portion was fermented in tank before a period of lees stirring and then bottling without fining.
