Greystone Basket Star Riesling 2010 (375ML)

Our first true botrytis Riesling.  Apricots, honey, jasmine on the nose.  Mandarins, peaches and baking spices on the palate.  Unctuous mouth feel.  Lovely weight and balance.

Viticulturist's Notes

North-west facing rows on gentle sloping soils on Greystone Vineyard are where some of our Riesling vines grow, ripening slowly throughout the growing season.  We had a small section displaying lovely Botrytis, which was carefully selected in multiple passes over two weeks.  The soils on this part of the vineyard are predominantly clay.  The fruit was hand-picked off spur-pruned vines at a density of 2500/ha.

Winemaker's Notes

Hand selected bunches showing noble rot of the 198 clone of Riesling grown at Greystone Vineyard were pressed slowly over 12 hours before settling in a small tank pre-fermentation. Fermentation started naturally before inoculation with a neutral yeast strain. Four months ageing and settling on lees in tank before bottling six months after harvest.
