Greystone Pinot Noir 2010

Greystone

Very dense and dark garnet in colour.  The nose is complex combining dark plum, masses of black cherry, campfire coals with a herbal hint in the background from the partial whole bunch fermentation.  The pallet is textural and chocked full of concentrated dark fruits and spicy oak; this is a wine that opens up considerably in the glass.

Viticulturist's Notes

Our Pinot Noir blocks are sloping and steep in places with wind-blown loess over clay and limestone deposits.  Protected by altitude and aspect these blocks enjoy a long growing season.

Winemaker's Notes

Our Pinot Noir is estate grown at Greystone Vineyard and was harvested at full ripeness with the grapes in healthy condition.  A small portion fermented as whole bunches whilst the majority was destemmed before small batch fermentation around 1.8tonne with 100% native yeasts. All batches were hand plunged up to four times daily to extract tannin, colour and promote good yeast health.  Aged for 11 months in barrel with 30% being new French oak.
