Greystone Brittle Star Riesling 2011

Greystone

Light golden with lime highlights in the glass.  A very delicately poised and complex nose showing masses of peach, apricot, manuka honey, citrus fruits and brioche.  The enticing nose leads to a full and generous palate showing luscious honeyed stone fruits, finely balanced by light natural acidity.  This will develop further complexity with time in the bottle.

Viticulturist's Notes

2011 as a season gave us more shriveled fruit - which we carefully selected and picked by hand.  We picked a small amount of shriveled Riesling for our Brittle Star Riesling from two estate blocks at Greystone Vineyard.  Density 2500 vines/Ha on a VSP two-cane trellis.

Winemaker's Notes

After careful selection in the vineyard, the bunches were whole bunch pressed to tank before settling cold to give us a pure juice lot for fermentation.  The fermentation was at low temperatures so we would retain fresh varietal characters, combined with the natural honeyed nature of the shriveled Riesling bunches.  Perfect as a digestif at the end of the evening.
