Dom  Maxwell talks about Greystone Pinot Gris 2010

2010 Vintage

Greystone Pinot Gris 2010

Trademark pink tinged Pinot Gris colour in the glass. Lovely weighty, spiced pear characteristics on the nose. Palate shows classic textural warmed honey and peaches, hazelnut and allspice. Our most successful variety to date, and this vintage shows all the hallmarks of being another winner!

Viticulturist's Notes
A slightly cooler year than average has given us fruit with slightly higher acidity levels at the optimum flavour ripeness, contributing to the long, fresh fruit flavours. Gentle slopes, NW facing on wind-blown loess (silt) over clay. Limestone deposits through vineyard. Density of 2500 vines/Ha on two-cane VSP trellis.

Winemaker's Notes
A small percentage of this fruit soaked on skins before a gentle pressing. A cool settling in tank before fermentation gave us very pure juice to ferment. Once balanced at an off-dry style the young wine was chilled before a period of lees stirring to introduce increased texture and light secondary flavours such as brioche and bread. This Pinot Gris shows strong varietal aromatics with a long sleek palate. It was, as with many of our wines, was bottled un-fined
