Organic wine producer, Greystone, has opened a new-look cellar door and eatery at their vineyard in Waipara, North Canterbury.

The new cellar door now boasts an eatery offering sharing plates made from locally grown, organic and foraged produce and is headed by acclaimed chef and forager, Melany Wright.

General manager, and founding viticulturist, Nick Gill says Mel’s food aligns perfectly with the team’s ambition to provide an authentic North Canterbury wine and food experience.

"We make wine that reflects our environment, so it made sense to develop a menu that captures both season and provenance. Mel is renowned amongst chefs in New Zealand for her foraging skills as well as her ability to tell a story of place through food. There’s something very special about being able to share North Canterbury food and wine in this way,” said Nick.

The refit of the cellar door was motivated by the new labels launched by the winery at the end of last year and was made a reality by local creative, Matt Smith, who managed the project’s design and build. 

Nick adds, “We’ve always wanted a home for the brand that reflected our wines and our vineyard.Matt sourced materials from the surrounding landscape, using barrels from the winery, a vine from the vineyard and limestone from the local hills.”

Greystone Cellar Door & Kitchen is open daily from 10am-5pm
